Ingleborough Caves

We took a walk up to Ingleborough caves today. It’s a mile or so before you get to the falls but the journey there is quite lovely at this time of year. Bluebells are out in force, the aroma of wild garlic fills the air as well as other pollen shedding plants and trees.

I’ve been reading Danny Champion of the World to Darwin recently and we’ve both enjoyed it. We’ve been learning how to poach pheasants. There were a few pheasant crows whilst we walked and Darwin asked if I had brought any raisins with me, which made me smile because I didn’t think he had been listening to the story as intently as that.

He’s become a bit of a lazy walker recently and carrying him is becoming unbearable. We really must do something about it.

When we got to the cave we donned our hats, took a few photographs (naturally), and began the tour. Sure we got the usual “and this stalactite is called the ....  because it looks like a ...  ” and the “and now we’re going to demonstrate how really dark it is in the cave”, but this guide was good, very interesting and infectiously enthusiastic. Not like the guide from White Scar who sounds like he’s been doing the job for 50 years and has been responsible for a number of deaths on his tours.

Darwin enjoyed the tour too.
