Elliott Erwitt
I love Elliott Erwitt, and if my family were captured by bad men and they made me tell them who I thought the best photographer ever was in order to secure their safe release, I would choose Elliott Erwitt.
So why not Cartier-Bresson? Well, don't get me wrong, there is no doubting that Bresson is a damn fine photographer but Erwitts images make me laugh. I get the impression that, like me (it really should be "I, like him") he has carried his camera round every where with him, and he's 85 now. He's seen a lot of stuff. He makes me want to take photos, he makes me look at life with rose tinted glasses.
