Acorn on the Head = Heart Attack

In the olden days when Deaf Ricky and I used to come climbing in the lakes virtually every weekend we hardly ever came as far up as Keswick. Consequently I know little of the area.

The first time I ever came up this far was with primary school. I remember watching ‘Tales of the Unexpected’, horse riding where one of the lad's horses ran off with him on the back and took him into the woods (it was an hour or so before he was found!), visiting Bowder Stone and eating our lunch at the top and our head master having a heart attack after being hit on the head by an acorn. I remember nothing of the fantastic scenery and beautiful lakes.

Kerry has now discovered this area and when she showed me some of her images from her walks I’ve been amazed. How have I not been here before in recent years?

So Kerry took Darwin and me for a trip there. First we visited the Bowder Stone which in my head hadn’t changed one bit since I was last there nearly 40 years ago. I was amazed to compare my images with ones from the proper olden days (100+ years). The lack of trees make the old images look like a nuclear bomb had been dropped. We then drove to Buttermere and made our way to Bassenthwaite. We were disappointed to see discarded tyres, litter and dog doings on the path by the lake, people are proper dicks sometimes aren’t they?
