The Hedgerow

So the trees/bushes arrived. There were lots of hawthorn and…. to be honest I can’t remember any of the other stuff, blackthorn maybe, or is that the same as hawthorn? Maybe some Elder? Kerry is getting into horticulture in a big way and she’s getting to know the Latin names for all the plants. There’s no difference between Latin and Morse to me, it’s just noise.

Stakes needed to be knocked in for the trees and bamboo sticks for the hawthorn. This doesn’t sound too hard does it, particularly as we were sticking them into a field, but 2 inches below the surface of the topsoil is a glacial deposit that sometimes makes it feel like Uluru is hidden underneath our field.

Any road, after a solid week of work all 450 things are in the ground and in a few years’ time we should have a small hedgerow in the field.
