A Ukrainian National Socialist Black Metal Band

Grizedale Forest enticed us this weekend, I can’t remember why but I’m glad it did. I once rode through a bit of Grizedale ages ago, on a bike! I hated it, not the forest the bike! (Who hates a forest?) (There was once a Ukrainian National Socialist black metal band called ‘Hate Forest’, that’s a genre isn’t it?) I very nearly threw the bike into Coniston (the lake, not the town) out of disgust for it, but I didn’t want to be a polluter.

Any road, we did the smallest walk in the forest and walked around the Stickman trail. There were a number of clockwork keys drilled into the trees that when turned played ‘plinky plonky’ mystical tunes from hidden speakers. It was lovely.

I’m trying to embrace autumn this year rather than seeing it as a terminal cancer diagnosis, you know what with the leaves falling from the trees, everything looking sparse and bleak and the dark and all that, a prelude to winter, the ultimate metaphor for Death! Any road, yeah like I was saying, embrace n that.

We’ll return again soon to Grizedale I’m sure.
