No Nazi’s Allowed (except the Wehrmacht)
This weekend saw the Rossendale Wartime Weekend, actually no
longer called the Wartime Weekend, it’s called the 1940’s weekend. For anyone wanting to wear uniform the ELR
made this statement:
1940s WEEKEND 2014,
24 - 26 MAY
Any visitor or
re-enactor wearing the following uniforms will be refused access or required to
leave:
Schutzstaffel (SS)
staff
Allgemeine SS forces
Waffen-SS
This includes any
uniform or clothing displaying:
The Totenkopf
(Death’s Head) symbol
Red armbands
emblazoned with the swastika
or any other overt
Nazi insignia.
This restriction
extends to certain German Officer
uniforms that were
connected with the more
controversial
elements of the Nazi regime.
Thank you for your
co-operation.
I love the weekend but this made me angry. Weren’t Nazi’s the main reason we had a
war? And isn’t the war the main reason
we remember the 1940’s? And we did
win! What good are we achieving from
banning Nazi SS uniforms? Alright, ban Nazi’s and their ideology but don’t ban nice people wearing the uniform.
For the same reason we should ban kids wearing Zombie outfits during
Halloween, the Japanese, men with big moustaches wearing flared jeans (because they look like
the IRA Obv!) and anyone wearing a back pack.
The Wehrmacht however were allowed.
