Roger Ballen
Roger Ballen is currently exhibiting at the City Art Gallery in Manchester. I'm new to Ballen so went with an open mind not knowing what to expect.
The exhibition is presented in chronological order which is necessary to appreciate his evolution as a photographer. Ballen started taking images in a documentary style in small rural villages in South Africa and then developed to stage created images in similar settings. I liked them all but for me the earlier works were my preferred ones, very real and because of this they had a more disturbing quality.
City Gallery is a lovely place and host some amazing exhibitions.
