St Bees

We met up with Emma and kids at St Bees. It wasn’t the most glamorous weather but it wasn’t freezing! The wind was blowing considerably and the rain was on and off, but other than that everything was good.

When we got there the kids wanted to play on the beach and the sea was retreating nicely. Before too long a good distance of shore line had appeared and all the kids went down to the edge of the sea to play ‘sea wave chase’, that game where you chase the sea out and try not to be caught by it when it returns. But before too long, I think about 20 seconds, Darwin was up to his neck in sea water absolutely soaking wet, and as were all the others.

The only thing we could do was to look out for the early onset of hyperthermia and look to control it the best we could. Once the children’s lips had turned blue we got them out of the sea and took them for hot drinks at the café. Darwin had a Horlicks and liked it, which was a blast from the past!

We wandered the beach for the remainder of the day and what a beautiful beach it is too.
