Rolf Harris and the Pump Track

My dad grew up in Ingleton. It isn’t really the greatest metropolis in this country so it feels quite funny that Darwin should be playing here some 70 years after he did.

We’ve found the pump track, a small bike track with small hills on it where kids zoom round doing all kinds of tricks. It’s absolutely free and the same faces are often there.

We took both Darwin’s bike and scooter. His bike only has small wheels so getting up some of the hills was a challenge but he persevered and with sheer determination he managed to do all the hills non-stop without touching the floor before the day was out.

He’s such a kind and caring soul too. There were a couple of other small kids there and whenever they fell off his first concern was their welfare and he always got off his bike to help.

Leaving Ingleton we bobbed into the Antique emporium. One thing for sale in there was a Rolf Harris stylophone, they haven’t dropped in price with bad press have they? My dad got one for Christmas in about 1979.
