Don't Call Woggles Woggles
After a swim in the morning that saw piggy independently
floating about on a woggle for the first time we caught the train to Ramsbottom
to make the most of the day. However,
just a word about the ‘woggle’, I don’t think it’s the best name for an item
that small children interact with. A
woggle is a foam strip floating aid to help small kids swim. Darwin calls elephants ‘elly’ as he currently
struggles with multi syllable words.
Consequently he will refer to a woggle as a ‘wog’, and surely this word
is in a banned list.
We boarded a single carriage smelly diesel train at Rawtenstall and
travelled through the snow covered valley to Ramsbottom spotting a variety of
farm animals on the way. If ‘Baa Sheep’
and ‘Moo Cows’ are so called in child speak why do we not get ‘neigh
horses’? Fortunately when we got to
Ramsbottom the steam engine came in, steam trains are far more exciting than
diesels we all agreed.
In the hour we had before we caught the train back we roamed
around the charity shops in town. They
were rammed as usual, mainly full of old folk, and that’s the problem with
charity shops. Old folk dither and chat
and there isn't a great deal of room in these shops. Normally I would wait for Kerry outside but
it was absolutely freezing. The good
thing about old folk though, and it’s the same with small kids, you can barge
them out of the way or throw them to the floor relatively easily.
The train back was a lovely steam engine and once again I
thought I had had a beautiful day.
