Snow Day
As soon as the snow arrives the news reporters head up to
the highest hills to stand in the deepest part of the wind driven snow in a
field to report how dangerous it is on the roads and only to go out if it is
absolutely essential. And everyone gives
in. Even the gritters and snow ploughs
took their advice yesterday but after all, there was a good 4 inches of snow.
It drives me fuckin bonkers.
It’s the 50th anniversary of Winston Churchills funeral today
(ironically the country reportedly came to a standstill!) and I very much doubt
that he would have had this modern day attitude to snow. “Get the fuckin gritters out and get on with
it”, he would have said.
And the nursery frustrates me too. For all the non-paying customers, people with
kids over 3, (of which the school will get state funding no matter what!) the
school gets closed at the very smell of snow.
If they were to close the nursery due to bad weather for the payers then
they would not be able to charge for the service, so they ensure that the
premises are open for the first hour and then call the parents and ask them to
collect their children due to H&S reasons.
All that aside I got to have a snow day yesterday with
Piggy. We built Thomas the Tank Engine
tracks in the morning, went for a walk in the snow and we had a nap together on
the sofa in front of the fire in the afternoon.
Lovely stuff!
