Mishka Henner
I do like a good portraitist and this is what we got this week at the Alternative Camera Club. Mishka works with a partner, Liz Lock, and has completed a number of projects over the years. I don't think I would be able to bare working with a partner in photography but it seems to have worked well for Mishka.
Their project, "In a foreign field" (a 'real' observation of the antics of youth at festivals) sparked a little debate amongst the club with a small minority thinking that the images give a bad reputation to festival goers, and indeed publicists have rejected the work for being too gritty. The collection is similar to Martin Parrs British seaside collection, only the subjects are a bit more drunk. In comparison to some images that get emailed around when things go viral (the Mastercard parody for example that show people being sick and crapping themselves when drunk) I found the images quite sympathetic and conservative.
Any road, more images can be found at the website of Mishka and Liz. There are some lovely quality portraits on there.
