Delicate Kids on Roundabouts
We go to the little park in Ambleside every now and then. On the play park there’s a swingy roundabouty thing that Darwin likes and he operates it like a traveller on a mobile fair. He isn’t delicate when it comes to riding it and he likes to be pushed as fast as he can. When it slows down a little he jumps off to speed it up himself and often gets catapulted up into the air at speed and flung out wide. There are some very complicated maths involved in it! To date he hasn’t fallen off and he prides himself on being able to handle it as well as the big kids can.
When I push him I’m conscious about the other kids and if I spot a delicate one I’ll refuse to push hard. Darwin doesn’t have any of these reservations. A delicate kid got on when we were there last and Darwin, along with another excitable boy, got the roundabout going as fast as they could. The delicate kid went pale and claimed that he was about to be sick. Darwin was very proud of himself and regrettably he caused me to laugh too.
