The Circus
We went to the circus whilst it was in town. Circuses have changed massively from when I was a kid, and quite rightly too. It seems quite Victorian in comparison to nowadays but whenever the circus came to town there was a big to do. Elephants where paraded through the town with clowns, acrobats and midgets and everyone came to watch. You’re not even allowed to say ‘midget’ nowadays never mind going down town to be shocked and amused by them! I wonder what the ‘little people’ think of that nowadays? In the olden days there was loads of money to be had as a ‘little person’, circuses during the summer, pantomime and elf work at Christmas, now there’s nowt! I don’t like the term ‘little people’ either, I can’t say it without effecting a Irish accent.
Any road, no Elephants or midgets at this circus. There were acrobats and 1 clown, because that’s another thing that’s changed over the years, clowns have become a symbol of horror, so only 1 clown is allowed at a time. And the circus itself? Well to be honest it was far more entertaining than I remembered the old circus being, it was great, spectacular even, and we all enjoyed ourselves.
