Roanhead
Now that we’ve got a taste for the sea this weekend we took a trip out to Roanhead. There’s a smallish car park and as you walk down the expansive beaches there are dunes large enough to sledge down. There were kids there sledging and I think Darwin wanted to get involved. To show his desire for involvement he simply lay on the sand face down and motionless as if he were dead. The kids didn’t ask him to play, nor were they in the slightest bit concerned that there may have been a dead kid in the dunes, and to be honest with them I don’t blame them.
There is also the decaying remains of a whale carcass and you smell it before you see it. The dogs were desperate to coat themselves in the dead whale’s odour but we prevented that behaviour.
We walked for about a mile lazily collecting shells and then turned back.
(Addendum. On further investigation it was found that the whale was actually a dolphin, a killer whale!)
