Christmas 2016
Christmas morning was here. The night before we had sprinkled the reindeer dust and left Santa a glass of whisky and a mince pie and a carrot for the reindeers. Is it only Rudolf who gets the carrot or is it shared between the 9 of them? Me and Darwin had also been tracking Santa on NORAD.
This is the first year he’s (Darwin!) properly known what’s going on and it’s lovely. He got up far too quick on the day and before I knew it he was in the living room being amazed by the amount of presents he got. Next year we’ll have to apply a little bit of discipline to build the anticipation and for me to be able to film it properly.
This year Paw Patrol was the theme. It’s a TV programme where a town relies on the assistance of a pre-pubescent boy and 6 puppies to help them out whenever there’s an emergency. I think it’s a little irresponsible of the town, God help them if there’s ever a terrorist attack, but Darwin loves it.
As well as a whole host of other stuff Pete also got him and me a couple of Nerf guns, toy guns that fire soft pellets up to about 20m. We have a corridor that stretches that distance in the house and so a battle commenced. Once weapons had been zeroed Grandad managed to hit Darwin on the forehead from about 10m which caused instant tears. For a moments I thought Christmas had been ruined but he quickly recovered and many more battles were had over the Christmas period.
We did very little ‘visiting’ this year, and when I say ‘very little’ I mean ‘none’. Everyone came to us which was absolutely lovely. Grandad came up for a few days and Fern and Chris came up on Christmas night. Then Nanny, Carlo, Leah and Richard came up Boxing Day and prepared a magnificent buffet. The Baerons came shortly after and Danny and Jenny after that. It was truly lovely.
We had a couple of winter walks to burn off the excesses, Kerry dressed Darwin like a little gay elf chef, we played some silly games and the house was warmer than it’s ever been.
