Acorn Bank

We visited Acorn Bank near Penrith at the weekend. The National Trust are a good bunch aren’t they? We walked round the house, which to be honest isn’t much. It’s in a state of dis-repair and I reckon it will be a while before it’s owt to look at but from the outside it looks quite spectacular.

We took a walk around the woods trying to find all the little fairy houses. Spring was rampant, Daffodils were plenty and chickens roamed the woods.

Darwin was starting to ‘play up’ at the end of the walk. This happens every now and then and the only way to rectify it in a positive and disciplined way is to ‘break him’. It culminated in him giving me an almighty right hook to the head, so I plonked him down and made him think about what he did. It’s forced solitary-ish punishment for a short period, only ending in his submissive weepy apology which can be so sweet. And hence he is rebooted and beautiful pleasant Darwin is experienced again.

As we came to the front of the house again a number of classic cars had turned up and uniformly parked in front of the house. The majority were Talbot cars. I was only aware of the Talbot Alpine, a Leyland Princess monstrosity lookalike from the 70’s, but these cars were beautiful. Googling it later they made some absolutely stunning looking cars over the years.
